RESILIENCE IN TRANSITION
Veterans and Civilian Life
Date to be confirmed
Adelaide, South Australia
Event Overview
Transitioning from military service into civilian life is not a single event.
It is a significant personal, professional, family and community transition that can continue well beyond the formal date of discharge.
Veterans bring extensive experience, discipline, leadership, technical knowledge, adaptability, teamwork and operational capability to civilian organisations.
However, service experience is not always easily understood or translated within civilian recruitment, education, employment and support systems.
Resilience in Transition will bring together veterans, families, employers, government, service organisations and community leaders to examine how transition systems can better recognise capability, reduce unnecessary barriers and support meaningful participation in civilian life.
Transition as a Connected System
Successful transition can be influenced by multiple connected factors, including:
Personal identity and sense of purpose
Recognition of military skills and qualifications
Employment and career pathways
Employer understanding and workplace culture
Education and professional development
Family adjustment
Housing and financial security
Health and wellbeing services
Peer and community connection
Navigation of government and support systems
A weakness in one area can place pressure on the entire transition process.
This event will consider how a more coordinated and person-centred approach can improve outcomes for veterans, families, employers and communities.
